This small oakwood robot can reforest the planet. It mimics nature by copying the reproductive mechanisms of the Erodium plant. The robot buries seeds deep underground, where they are protected from natural threats like fires, rains, and animals. In addition to seeds, the robot can contain fungi and worms, which can help with germination. It has three anchor points that prevent it from flipping over or falling down. It always faces downward at a specific angle to penetrate the ground.
The Erodium Copy Robot is developed by researchers at the Morphing Matter Lab at the University of Berkeley in California to draw inspiration from nature to produce inclusive and sustainable innovations.
